'People are still romantic': Top five flowers stealing hearts in Skegness on Valentine’s Day
Love is certainly in the air in Skegness this Valentine’s Day — and staff at Sarah's Florists have been quite literally swept off their feet.
We popped into the Lincoln Road shop to see just how romantic the town is feeling this February 14, and it was all hands on deck as bouquets were wrapped, ribbons tied and last-minute orders collected.
Owner Sarah Collier, who opened the shop 18 years ago after learning her trade at De Montfort University in Lincoln, said Skegness continues to show its softer side.
“People are still romantic and don’t mind parting with money for someone they love,” she said. “And it’s not just Valentine’s Day. We have regular customers who often pop in to buy their wife a bouquet, which I feel is lovely.”

Inside the shop, the scent of fresh flowers filled the air as orders went out throughout the day.
Roses remain the firm favourite for Valentine’s Day, but Sarah said this year has also seen strong demand for tulips, lilies, orchids and colourful gerberas.
“It’s been non-stop,” one member of staff said. “It’s wonderful to see so many people coming into town to choose something special.”
Preparations began a year ago. “People don’t realise that is when we have to order to get the best prices,” added Sarah. “So it’s a relief when the orders start to come in.”
While red roses continue to symbolise romance, many customers are opting for personalised arrangements featuring their partner’s favourite blooms or colours.
Despite the February chill outside, inside the shop the atmosphere was warm and buzzing — proof that in Skegness, romance is still very much alive and blooming.
