Those attending have been delighted, with social media abuzz with praise for the event, which started with the official opening of the Christmas Market at noon.

The event was organised by Boston Council, and activities continued well into the evening, with two actual switch-ons taking place - one in Market Place for the town lights, and the other at Pescod Square Shopping Centre.

The Christmas lights in the town centre have been put up by volunteers from the Christmas In Boston group, which has worked tirelessly to source funding and help from businesses across the town to pay for lights.

And it has put together a display that would cost around £40,000 if they had to pay someone to do it.

The Christmas In Boston team said: "Wow! We Smashed it! Well Done Kristina and the Boston Council Events Team for organising such an amazing night to celebrate switching on the lights.
