But that target was left well in the shade as the current total stands at £1,700.

As part of the group’s Christmas virtual camp, more than 70 children and families braved the cold weather to take part in the fundraiser in their own way.

Connie Roberts, a leader at Wragby Scouts, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of locals, who have supported the children for an extremely good cause close to our heart.

“One of our Scouting families was keen to take part in Rudy’s Run in memory of Colin Westwood, who was cared for by St Barnabas Hospice. The group decided to support Colin’s daughter, Sarah Poucher, and her children, Mollie (Cubs), Thomas (Cubs) and Bethan (Beavers) by incorporating this into our Christmas camp. All the children had lots of fun, good exercise and worked as part of the community.”

Rebecca Hooton, senior corporate and community fundraiser, said: “On behalf of St Barnabas I would just like to say a big thank you to Wragby Scout Group for absolutely embracing the Rudy’s Run initiative. They really have blown us away.

“Their hard efforts will go a long way to helping the patients and their families throughout Lincolnshire who are cared for by St Barnabas Hospice. A heartfelt thank you to you all.”

St Barnabas is renowned for its outstanding end of life care for adults, but they also provide pre- and post-bereavement support for families too.

This invaluable support is free for anyone in Lincolnshire who is struggling with loss.

More work is being done at St Barnabas to create a specialist bereavement service for children as young as five.

Losing a parent, sibling or grandparent can be extremely traumatic for a child and, sadly, something 1 in 30 children will be going through it each day.

Rudy’s Run was designed to promote this service and fundraise to keep this and St Barnabas Hospice’s overall mission ‘to offer compassionate end of life care’ going throughout the charity’s toughest year to date.
