Plans to enhance sports and leisure facilities in Gainsborough moving forward

West Lindsey District Council has reiterated its commitment to delivering highquality sports and leisure facilities for local communities, highlighting the significant progress already underway.

A key priority within the council’s new Corporate Plan under its Thriving People theme is ensuring residents have opportunities to be active, healthy and connected.

To achieve this the council will champion health, wellbeing, culture and active lifestyles by working effectively with its partners to deliver the Districts’ Health and Wellbeing Strategy and to ensure equity of access to services and deliver its emerging Sport and Active Leisure Strategy to increase district wide opportunities for participation in sport and leisure activities.

Coun Moira Westley, deputy leader of the council, said: “We are committed to delivering highquality sports and leisure facilities for our communities, and we are already making strong progress.

The West Lindsey Administration is continuing to advance a programme of enhancements aimed at strengthening the district’s leisure provision and supporting longterm community wellbeing.

Councillors will be considering a new Sports and Physical Activity Strategy with several of its central objectives already in development. This includes exploring investment opportunities at West Lindsey Leisure Centre and undertaking wider work to assess how the district’s leisure offer can be improved further.

Councillors have also attended a special briefing at the leisure centre to discuss a range of available options. A detailed report will be presented to councillors in April, marking an important next step for the project.

Engagement with stakeholders will be central to shaping the next stages of work, ensuring that local needs are fully considered as options for future facilities are explored.

Coun Westley added: “We look forward to bringing these proposals back to councillors in the summer.

“While all development must be managed responsibly within the council’s financial position, we remain committed to improving opportunities for sport and physical activity and to creating facilities that our residents can be proud of.”

Councillors have also approved a new Corporate Plan, ‘Our West Lindsey, Our Future’.

Council leader, Coun Jackie Brockway, said: “Our West Lindsey, Our Future, is a strong and ambitious Corporate Plan for West Lindsey, clearly setting out not only the priorities of the new Administration, but also the key principles, values and behaviours that will guide how we work together to deliver these in the years ahead.

“This is a Corporate Plan that delivers for the whole district and I am proud to support it.”
