Police in ‘stay at home at Halloween’ appeal

Officers stress people can still enjoy October 31 but are urging them to comply with any Covid restrictions in force.

Police have scaled back their traditional pre-Halloween programme in the Wolds Division which includes Horncastle, Woodhall Spa, Coningsby and surrounding villages.

In recent years, police have visited schools and advised youngsters how to celebrate Halloween, without causing problems.

Covid-19 restrictions will limit how many people - and households - can gather in a group.

PCSO Nigel Wass said: “We know families will want to celebrate but we’d urge them to try and do so at home.

“Please, don’t gather in large groups and don’t go out knocking on doors - unless you are expected.”

Traditionally, Halloween is one of the busiest times of the year for police with a spike in ASB.

Police will again by staging patrols this year but will not be offering children sweets - a policy that has proved successful locally in recent years.

PCSO Wass added: “We always ask young people not to approach homes occupied by the elderly or other vulnerable residents.

“This year, it is even more important.

“A lot of these people will be isolating

“Please, be sensible and be aware of the consequences of your actions.”
