Police officer commended after talking down man trying to jump off bridge

A Boston police sergeant who talked a man down when he was attempting to jump off Town Bridge has received a commendation.

Sergeant Matt Dickinson received an Area Commander’s Commendation for his service in helping save the man.

Lincolnshire Police were called to the incident in January this year.

The force said Sgt Dickinson’s calm approach led the man to safety after 20 minutes of negotiation.

His fellow Boston sergeant, Kate Odlin, received a Long Service Award for 20 years of policing at the same ceremony.

Inspector Fran Harrod said: “We all very proud of Sgt Odlin and Sgt Dickinson.

“I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication that they bring to policing. Congratulations to both.”
