Police still searching for man who jumped in river more than a week ago

Althought the search has been scaled down, police say they are continuing to look for him.

And they are appealing for anyone with any information or who may have seen something to contact them.

A major operation was launched by emergency services after the man, in his 30s, was reported to have fallen into the River Haven.

Police say they were called to the incident on High Street at 9.45pm on Monday December 23.

The man, who police say is 33, has not yet been identified by Lincolnshire Police.

Police believe the man jumped into the river, which had a very strong current at the time.

The Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service rescue boat was launched to help with the search.

The regional police helicopter along with a Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter and a Lincolnshire Police drone were also mobilised and flew above the river using heat seeking equipment to try and find the man.

The search of the river itself was called off at 1am on Christmas Eve until daylight but ground searches along the river continued through the night.

Speaking on Christmas Eve, Chief Inspector James Trafford said: “The emergency services and Coastguard agency carried out extensive searches last night to locate this man.

“We do not yet know why this man has decided to jump into the river, but we are working to understand why this happened.”

A police spokesperson told the Standard today: “The search for this man has been scaled down but the enquiry is ongoing.

“We continue to appeal for any sightings of him or any information that could assist the investigation.”
