Samantha Scarbro, from Pop Inn Cafe in 12 Market Place, submitted the application on August 28.

Samantha is seeking to have four tables and 12 chairs put outside the premises, between the hours of 7.30am and 4pmMonday to Saturday.

Councillor Bill Aron, local member for Horncastle on Lincolnshire County Council, said:“With the part-pedestrianisation of the Market Place set to take place in the coming weeks, it’s really encouraging to see the Pop Inn Cafe looking to take advantage of the extra space and applying for a street cafe licence.

“The application still needs to be determined in the usual way, but this is exactly the kind of thing we wanted to see when we removed traffic from this
area of the Market Place.”

In his statement, Councillor Aron also referenced the partial pedestrianisation of north of Horncastle Market Place.

Councillor Aron added: “Unfortunately, closing off the road isn’t as easy as putting a few cones and signs out.

“There are legal hoops that even the council has to jump through to make sure that it’s done safely and properly.

“We’re pulling out all the stops to get it done as quickly as possible.”

• Once approved, the licence will be valid until the end of September 2021.

Town councillors in Horncastle have previously welcomed the pavement licences - but expressed concerns that licences can take 10 days or more to be granted.
