Delivered by the Diocese of Lincoln, the Building Capacity in the Rural Parish Church in Lincolnshire Project will train volunteers in the art of writing grant applications for churches in the Market Rasen, Caistor and Spilsby areas.

Successful bids will fund vital church building maintenance projects, including repairs to stonework, guttering and drainage, so they can continue to be used, visited and enjoyed by all.

Caroline Wallis, Rural Churches Volunteers Project Officer, said: “Rural parish churches need our support more than ever before.

“Constant weathering over the centuries has affected the fabric of the buildings and the persistent bad weather we have had recently has also taken its toll.

“The onus for carrying out these repairs would usually lie with the clergy and the church community, but it is increasingly the case that those already involved rarely have the time, the confidence, or the skills to take on church buildings maintenance projects in addition to their existing responsibilities.

Caroline continued: “This is why we are encouraging members of the public with a love of history and heritage to get involved with this project, which will provide training in bid writing and other useful skills to support churches in some of the most beautiful areas of the county.

“Experience is not required, just passion and enthusiasm.”

The first event will run between 9am and 11am at the Arts and Heritage Centre, followed by a second at St Peter and Paul’s Church, between 1pm and 3pm.
