To mark World Book Day, children at St George’s Prep dressed up as adventurous vocabulary, and for children both in school and online at home, lessons were themed around the poetry of Benjamin Zephaniah.

The children in Year 6 dressed on the theme of adjectives, and wrote a poem using those adjectives in the style of Professor Zephaniah.

And when school head Sarah Whelan posted the poem on Twitter, the poet replied praising the work.

It said: “Very nice Year 6. I can feel it. So it must be good. Well done to you all.”

Sarah said: “We are all so excited and grateful that he took the time to read the year 6 poem and reply. Claire Jackson, our English lead teacher, did a fantastic job of organising World Book Day this year, managing to overcome the obstacles associated with teaching both in-school and at home.

Being black ain’t no sin

I ain’t lazy

But people call me crazy

Some people may tink I’m contagious

But really I am super courageous

Politicians pretend to be so sophisticated

However didn’t you know we are all related

People act like we ain’t normal

But you in your suits are way too formal

Your hearts are cold and as slaves we were sold

By de time we is recognised we will be old

Discombobulated and depressed we are

We are not infectious nor bizarre

Law enforcement may be hyper

But in reality we are de igniter

Community may be dishevelled

But now in 2021, we ARE ALL ON DE SAME LEVEL.
