Community groups in Market Rasen are working together to support the elderly and most vulnerable in the local area.

Chaired by town and district councillor Stephen Bunney, a meeting was held yesterday (Thursday) to look at co-ordinating the good work already set up in the town.

In attendance were representatives from the town’s five churches, Market Rasen Action Group, Market Rasen Lions, the town council, De Aston School and the Market Rasen Mail.

“The aim is to work together to benefit the community of Rasen.

“There are a number of food banks in the town, who have already been supporting people and we need to look at this going forward.

“The information letters MRAG volunteers have delivered have been well received.

“The important thing is to keep communication open between everyone to have a co-ordinated approach.”

Coun Bunney has registered the Rasen groups with the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum and regular update meetings will be held to adapt plans as time goes on.

The groups main focus at the present time is the food banks and continuing the work already being done with the town’s Tesco and Lincolnshire Co-op stores.

It was agreed, Tesco would work primarily with the New Life Church food bank, including the collection being done by the town council at the store, while the Salvation Army food bank will work with the town’s Co-op store and MRAG.

It was agreed distribution of food parcels will be for emergency supplies for approximately a week.
