Recruitment drive for Bourne and Boston Police Cadets

Lincolnshire Police is looking for teenagers between 14 and 17 who are prepared to give up one night a week to support policing teams in both towns as they tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

Anyone interested must go to school or college within the Lincolnshire Police area and be available on Wednesday evenings, with the next recruitment campaign taking place in September.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The purpose of our Cadet Service is to encourage and support young people from all backgrounds, with the aim of building self-esteem and confidence to help them reach their full potential.

“Cadets will be taught about the law, police procedures, first aid and some of the specialist units with the force.

“But they will also get the opportunity to help local policing teams tackle local crime problems and, at the age of 16 after successfully passing the relevant criteria, cadets will be allowed to go out on patrol with selected officers.

“In addition, cadets will also represent the force at local community events such as fetes, bonfire displays and village shows.

“We want to promote positive images of young people and the police within the community by developing each cadet to maintain his or her volunteering role and to support future aspirations.

“Placing cadets at the heart of promoting community safety and crime prevention will encourage young people to act as peer role models.”
