A community has expressed its sadness after the body of a well-known local man was discovered in Wainfleet.

The man, named locally as 'Rocky' Mountain, was discovered in a river along Church Lane at 1pm yesterday, (Tuesday).

Lincolnshire Police have today confirmed the 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene but the death is not being treated as "suspicious".

A spokesperson for police said: "Incident 169 of 18 February, reported at 1pm, refers to a report of a body being found in the water at Church Lane, Wainfleet.

"The man, aged 61, from the local area was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We are not treating his death as suspicious and the matter has been passed to the coroner."

It is believed the man was caretaker at the Coronation Hall in Wainfleet.

Among the many tributes to him posted on social media was one from local Councillor Wendy Bowkett.

She commented: "RIP Rocky. You looked after us so well last year with looking after the Corrie Hall 24 hours a day in the floods.

"You will be so missed around Wainfleet - sleep tight xx"
