School taking part in Million Minutes reading challenge

A Boston school is notching up thousands of stories as part of a national reading campaign.

Boston West Academy is taking part in the March Million Minutes, recording reading minutes throughout the school.

Last year the school shared 12,082 stories as part of the national “Share a Million Stories” campaign.

It is hoping to do even better this year, with pupils, families and staff all taking part.

Time logged reading at home will also be included and all staff are logging their own reading times.

“This is an ambitious project with two important aims: firstly, to promote good reading habits in our children and, secondly, to highlight the importance of reading as a skill used in everyday life,” said the school’s teaching and learning leader Amanda Ward. “It is hoped that by running the campaign over a sustained period, throughout the whole of March, the impact of this will be greater and encourage our children to be engaged and enthusiastic readers beyond the duration of it. “
