Skegness 10k returns to Butlin’s with bigger field, seal appeal and fun-filled course

Skegness 10k running race returns to Butlin’s Skegness this Sunday, continuing its successful comeback for a second consecutive year and cementing its place on the town’s sporting calendar.

The historic coastal race was revived last year when Curly’s Athletes stepped in to ensure it could go ahead, following concerns it may be lost. Previously organised by the Skegness Coasters, the event has since gone from strength to strength with strong local backing.

After attracting 750 runners at its first year back, this year’s race has expanded to 900 entries, reflecting growing interest in the event and its reputation for a flat, fast course.

Organisers say runners can expect a traffic-free seaside route, starting and finishing within the grounds of Butlin’s caravan park, weaving through the site and the neighbouring Skegness Water Leisure Park. The course has been designed to be spectator-friendly and offers strong personal-best potential.

Last year’s event featured Billy and Bonnie the Butlin’s Bears, giant seagulls played by volunteers, music around the course and plenty of family-friendly fun. Those elements return this year, along with an aid station on route, a chip-timed race, an England Athletics licence, a commemorative medal and a well-earned cake-based treat at the finish line.

Runners are also being encouraged to support Natureland Seal Sanctuary’s towel appeal, helping care for orphaned seals, with participants able to show their support by wearing the event T-shirt on the day.

Jonathan ‘Curly’ Frary, of Curly’s Athletes, said: “The Skegness 10k is a historic race on the coast which I have run myself, and it was important to make sure it continued. We’re delighted with how it’s grown and hugely grateful to Butlin’s Skegness, the Skegness Coasters, our volunteers and partners.”

Sunday’s race starts at 11am. Furure events include: 29th March - Normanby Adventure Race 5k & 10k
