Skegness Easter booking issue prompts complaint and response from Booking.com

A dispute has emerged over an Easter accommodation booking in Skegness, with a customer claiming families were left without a place to stay.

Booking.com told Lincolnshire World that the property in question has hosted a number of successful stays and added it was not aware of multiple bookings linked to the complaint.

However, John Taylor said his booking at the apartments did not go ahead as expected, leaving him and others unable to stay at the property.

In a statement, he alleged that multiple families, including those with young children and disabled members, had been affected and were unable to access the accommodation on arrival.

Mr Taylor claimed this led to disruption to their Easter plans, with some deciding to return home.

He also raised concerns about the suitability of alternative accommodation offered and questioned the vetting of properties listed on booking platforms. Lyndene Holiday Apartments — a converted Edwardian building — is marketed as a budget-friendly option in a central location, less than a 10-minute walk from Skegness beach and around five minutes from the train station. Reviews available online giving 2.5 to 3 stars suggest a mixed range of customer experience – with positives being its location and closeness to railway station and the main promenade, shops, and attractions like the fun fair. Negatives include reports of potential issues with maintenance, cleanliness, and last-minute booking cancellations

A spokesperson for Booking.com said: “While the accommodation provider has hosted a number of successful stays, we were sorry to hear about this customer’s experience.

“After being alerted to the issue, our customer service team tried to assist by offering alternative accommodation options as part of our relocation support, in addition to covering the price difference between the original and alternative properties, but this was declined by the customer. A full refund was provided.”

The company added that it works with accommodation providers to ensure standards are met and offers support to customers when issues arise.

The Skegness Standard tried to contact Lyndene Holiday Apartments for comment via the details provided on google but the number was not recognised.
