'Skegness is so bracing': Let’s go fly a kite with Robert Steadman and his amazing creations
There are few places where the famous slogan “Skegness is so bracing” feels more fitting than on the town’s wide open beach with a kite soaring high overhead.
With its fresh sea air, big skies and reliable coastal breeze, Skegness has long been one of the best locations in the region for kite flying – attracting enthusiasts, families and experienced flyers alike.
Among those helping keep the tradition alive and entertaining vititors with his amazing creations is well-known local character Robert Steadman, better known to many as Robert Penny Fathing, who has spoken of his passion for making and flying kites.
Robert is featured on the front page of this week’s Skegness Standard newspaper, in a picture taken by John Byford.

Barry Robinson caught up with Robert to find out more about his unusual hobbies, which go far beyond making kites.
