Skegness landmarks inspire striking new mural in The Lumley beer garden
A colourful new mural celebrating some of Skegness’ best-known landmarks and seaside traditions has been unveiled in the beer garden of a local pub.
The eye-catching artwork at The Lumley was created by local artist Dan Bangham after he was commissioned by pub manager Sally Smith to transform an area of outdoor space.
The mural features a host of recognisable Skegness images, including the Jolly Fisherman on a scooter, a donkey relaxing in a deckchair, the Clock Tower, poppies and a wartime aircraft,
Dan, who returned to his hometown last year after spending two decades away studying and working, said he was delighted to create something celebrating the resort.

He said: “I was away for around 20 years — first at Leeds University studying printed textiles and then working in London designing fashion fabrics in a textile studio before moving into the greetings card industry.
“I’m born and bred in Skegness, so it’s lovely to come back and do something like this for the town.”
Dan said he was approached about the project through family connections before meeting with Sally Smith to discuss ideas for the design.
“They had printouts of what they wanted included and I knew I could bring it all together and create something really original,” he said. “There are lots of Skegness themes in there, from the Clock Tower to the Jolly Fisherman and I’ve really enjoyed adding a fun element to it.”
Originally planned at 10ft by 20ft, the mural eventually grew even larger and took around a month to complete. The artwork was printed onto boards by Vivid Graphics before being assembled in the pub garden.
Dan said the reaction had been overwhelmingly positive.
“Everyone says it looks amazing,” he said. “I’d love to do more projects like this because Skegness has so much to offer. It’s an amazing town and we should celebrate that.”
Sally added: “The mural is absolutely stunning and represents everything Skegness is.
“We are delighted with it and everyone is loving it.
