Skegness man to take on 42-mile 'ultramarathon' for Air Ambulance in memory of brother
A runner from Skegness is preparing to complete his first ultramarathon to support a charity in memory of his late brother.
Will Britton is to take on an epic 42 mile route from Lincoln to Skegness in one day to raise money for Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
The challenge will honour his big brother Jimmy Britton, who was tragically killed in Skegness in 2021 after being repeatedly run over by a van driven by a man having a severe mental health episode.
A former Boston man and ‘beloved dad’ - Jimmy was just 37 when he passed away in hospital eight days after the attack.

“2026 marks the fifth year since the sudden passing of our beloved brother Jimmy,” explains Will, 33. “I’ve decided to take on a little run from Lincoln to Skegness in his honour.
"The charity of our choosing is a special one, as some of you may know the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance played a vital role in giving Jimmy the best possible opportunity to save his life. Unfortunately the injuries he sustained were just too much for his body to handle, but what the Air Ambulance did was give him a chance. That’s all it takes, it might be all the next person needs.”
Fives years’ ago Will completed a full marathon run from Skegness to Louth in memory of Jimmy. “This will be my first attempt at an ultramarathon,” he explains. “I’ve been doing lots of training, but whether it will be enough or not, I won’t know until the day itself.”
Will plans to set off on the run from Lincoln Cathedral on October 1, and make his way across the county the Skegness, finishing at the Links Bar and Restaurant in Drummond Road.

He is aiming to raise £5000 to help the life-saving air ambulance charity to continue its work. A fundraiser held at the Links has already raised around £2,700 towards the target.
"Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance isn’t government-funded,” Will added. “They rely solely on us to raise money to help save lives. It costs roughly £5,000 to send out the air ambulance – which could be the difference between a life saved and a life lost.”
