Sleaford firefighters come up with drive-through Santa’s Grotto to delight families

With the disappointment that they would not be able to tour the town’s streets with Father Christmas this year due to Covid restrictions against gatherings, Sleaford firefioghters have come up with a new idea - Santa’s Drive-Through Grotto!

The crews are hoping to raise £2,000 to be split between the Firefighters Charity and a charity local to Sleaford and have been busy creating a magical winter wonderland at the fire station on East Road.

Families can visit Santa in a completely Covd-friendly way, driving through the wonderland before having the opportunity to see to Santa from the comfort of their car. He will be greeting families from his sleigh.

Crew manager Colin Calam explained they got the idea from the Spalding fire station. “We will have our usual sleigh parked up in the centre of the car park and either side we will have lots of christmas trees, inflatables, music and a snow machine to create a winter scene so that people can drive by and wave.”

The crews say: “You’re welcome to just come along, but we kindly ask for a donation to be made to The Firefighters Charity and a charity local to Sleaford Fire Station via our online JustGiving page or by donating on the day.

“We look forward to seeing you!”

The drive-through grotto will be open from 4.30pm-7pm this Thursday to Saturday, December 17-19. It may be extended to an additional night depending on demand.
