‘So very much appreciated’ – Health and safety at construction site raises £8,000-plus for charities operating in Boston area

The causes of the latest to benefit from the initiative run as part of the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm project.

Under the scheme, Triton Knoll and partners Siemens Energy make monthly donations to a charity pot based on health and safety performance at the onshore substation construction site near Bicker Fen.

Members of the site team then nominate local charities to receive funds from the pot, with a vote following.

The latest four causes to benefit from the scheme are:

l Cruse Bereavement Care

l Lincolnshire Rural Support Network (LRSN), an organisation providing support to farming and rural people

l Shine Lincolnshire, a mental health organisation

l We Are With You in Lincolnshire (Boston), the local service of a national charity that supports people experiencing issues with drugs, alcohol or mental health

Each will receive £2,119, bringing the total raised for good causes through the scheme to £30,000.

Jacob Hain, substations package manager at Triton Knoll, said: “We take site safety extremely seriously, and we recognise that the employees working on our sites are best placed to spot any improvements that can be made.

“By encouraging workers to report anything they think could cause a problem, we’re achieving multiple goals. We’re getting increased ‘buy in’ to our safety procedures by involving the team, we’re constantly improving procedures and, of course, we’re giving something back to the local community.

“The scheme has proved a great success both in terms of improving site safety and raising much needed funds for local charities.”

All the charities gave thanks for the support.

Cruse Bereavement Care described it as an ‘incredibly generous donation’, LRSN as ‘so very much appreciated’.

Shine Lincolnshire said the funds be used to adapt and expand its volunteer services to help people with mental health needs access suppor, while We Are With You in Lincolnshire said it would boost its ‘vital’ work of emergency in-person appointments and also virtual support sessions.

The 857MW Triton Knoll offshore wind farm, once operational, will be capable of generating enough renewable energy for the equivalent of over 800,000 typical UK households.

The project is owned by RWE, J-Power and Kansai Electric Power, with RWE managing the construction as well as the long-term operation and maintenance works on behalf of its project partners.
