Covid-19 restrictions meant this year Oscar Smalley wasn't able to have his friends around for a party.

However, this wasn't stopping mum Chelsea from planning a special day.

"I put out a post on social media fto see if someone would dress up as Spider-Man and surprise Oscar on his birthday," she said. "Until a year ago it was animals and dinosaurs but for the past year he has been Marvel mad.

"I was really surprised when someone offered to do it," he said. "But so pleased he did."

The man offering to be Spider Man was none other but our local councillor Simon Claxton.

"When I saw the post on social media I just had to help out," he said. "I thought it would be worth it if I could bring a little happiness to that young man's birthday seeing as he couldn’t have a party with his friends.

"When he came to the door and shouted Spider-Man I could tell how much he liked the character.

"I got a bit flustered though when he stared asking me where Venom and Carnage (other Marvel characters) were. I asked if he wanted to know a secret, that he was was favourite, and then he was even more happy to see Spider-Man."

On the day of Oscar's birthday his mother, Chelsea Wainwright, got him to answer the door and he squealed when he saw Spider-Man standing there with a birthday cake and a gift.

Chelsea said: "When Oscar saw him at the door he said 'I love you. I watch you every day.

"It was priceless. He didn't stop talking about it afterwards."

Not surprisingly Oscar, who is in the reception class at Skegness Infants' School, is now really excited about a visit from a Christmas Super Hero, Santa Claus. Chelsea said: "All he wants are Marvel characters but it will be hard to top this!."
