Teenage National Citizenship Service volunteers brighten up Sleaford children's centre

The teenagers were all involved in the National Citizenship Scheme and had already spent a week discussing careers and improving their employability skills with the help of local businesses, as well as spending time away at outdoor adventure centre PGL in Caythorpe to build up their problem solving and team skills.

They then embarked on a project to raise money for local charity the Ally Cadence Trust and the Make A Wish Foundation, raising over £500 through bag packing in Tesco and a cake sale.

The young volunteers crowned their achievements by doing some renovation work to brighten up the Children and Young People’s Centre in Money’s Yard.

On completion of the work they invited impressed staff and parents in last week to view the tranformation.

This involved cleaning and weeding outside the main entrance, filling a large planter with flowers and cleaning the buggy store for parents’ pushchairs. They also cleaned up the garden area, doing more planting and laying bark chippings to smarten up the tired looking area before repainting the entrance lobby inside.
