'There’s still so much to do': New executive councillor to lead charge against potholes
Lincolnshire County Council has appointed a new councillor to lead the charge against the county’s most notorious potholes.
Coun Michael Cheyne will step down from his Executive role overseeing highways and transport, citing health concerns after major surgery last year.

He will be handing over the job to Coun David East, who represents the Heckington division, but will carry on his work for rthe community in Boston West.
Since taking on the portfolio in May, Coun Cheyne has earned praise for his practical approach — including spearheading the trial of the Pothole Pro, a move that has been welcomed by residents tired of bumpy rides and crumbling roads.
“It’s been an absolute honour to lead the highways and transport portfolio,” Coun Cheyne said.
“After my operation, I need to focus on my health, but I will continue to represent and fight for my community in Boston West.
"There’s still so much to do for Lincolnshire, and the portfolio deserves someone with the energy to drive it forward.”
Coun Cheyne confirmed a full handover is underway to make sure the transition is seamless. He said: “I’m making sure David has everything he needs to hit the ground running. While I’m stepping back from the Executive, I’ll still be out there supporting residents in Boston West.”
Council leader Coun Sean Matthews praised Coun Cheyne’s contributions: “Michael has been instrumental in driving forward improvements, including the Pothole Pro trial — a project that residents have noticed and appreciated.
"His level-headed approach and commitment to engaging with local communities will be missed in the Executive, but we’re lucky his insight will remain in the chamber, and residents of Boston will continue to have a strong advocate in their corner.”
Coun Cheyne leaves a legacy of hands-on problem-solving, community engagement, and practical improvements that will continue to benefit Lincolnshire’s roads and transport services long after he steps down.
