She received the honour from Chief Commissioner for North East England, Jill Webb.

“We have 60,000 members in the region and this award is only given out two or three times,” she said.

“It goes to adult members of Girlguiding who have made a difference through volunteering.

“Sheila has certainly done that - as a trainer, helper and developer of guiding.”

Mrs Lamming has been involved in guiding for three decades and the Laurel Award came as a surprise.

She said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed at the award.

“I am not anyone special; there are a lot more people who have done a lot of things.

“I am lucky to live in a town where everybody comes together to help.”

As well as working with local guiding units, Mrs Lamming has served as Market Rasen District Commissioner and Lincoln North County Commissioner.

She is currently Divisional Commissioner for Market Rasen, which includes Middle Rasen, Caistor, Wragby and Normanby, and also runs children’s church groups in Market Rasen parish church.

This is the third award Mrs Lamming has received in less than a year.

In December, she received the Market Rasen Rotary Community Award and last May her tireless voluntary work was recognised by West Lindsey District Council, when she was named District Champion.

Mrs Lamming added: “I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my husband, John, and all my family.”
