The area has long been popular with bikers and with new government guidelines issued last week easing some restrictions, some saw it as an opportunity to take to the road once more.

However, Lincolnshire Police posted a picture on their social media platforms taken at Willingham Woods on Sunday, which attracted more than 600 comments, many criticising the bikers.

A police spokesman told the Rasen Mail: “Our officers stopped and spoke to a number of riders and drivers across the county, and issued tickets where offences were identified, including in the Willingham Woods area.

“We are focussed on keeping everyone safe, that means encouraging and educating people to comply with social distancing and, in the case of road users, to drive and ride to the speed limits, be considerate and get home safely.

“Extra officers will be on patrol and will be working with Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership over the coming days and weeks to prevent further offences and we will take enforcement action where necessary.”

The spokesman also had a message for all road users.

They said: “We have seen a decrease of 50 per cent on normal traffic levels.

“We are now experiencing a rise back to the pre-Covid traffic levels.

“We are appealing to everyone who uses the roads to drive safely to prevent any surge in people being killed or seriously injured on our roads.”
