Time to say 'thank you' to volunteers

Volunteers are forever - not just for the Covid-19 pandemic.

That is the message from the Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service during the national Volunteers Week.

Kathryn Laverack, Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service Area Officer East Lindsey, said: "It’s so easy for us to say thank you but the sentiment will be so greatly appreciated by the thousands of volunteers who give their time and skills, not just in a pandemic, but every day of every year."

Since the lockdown began, the Skegness area has seen some amazing acts of kindness, with new volunteers doing shopping and helping the vulnerable, and others making scrubs for NHS workers

However, the extent of volunteering in the area was first highlighted when Skegness' own Volunteers Week was launched last year at the Hildreds Centre. A staggering 37 organisations taking part, with over 137,000 hours logged on the ‘Volometer’.

Unfortunately, this year's event in March was cut short at the start of the Covid-19 restrictions, but there is still time to celebrate our volunteers.

Volunteers Week ends on June 7. Residents are asked to show their appreciation by using the #ThanksLincsVolunteers. on social media.
