Tom is on the right track for go-karting success

Boston’s Tom Elston is making his mark in the karting world just over a year since he first got his own vehicle.

Tom, 11, is set on making it as a Formula One driver, and has already notched up a series of good finishes in events which took place last year in spring and early summer.

He is supported by dad Sam, mum Lynn, and older brother Harry, along with grandad Pete, who Sam describes as Tom’s biggest fan, despite recovering from a stroke.

Tom was bitten by the motorsports bug after a trip to a Go Kart track in Lincoln, and soon after, he was given his first kart as a Christmas present at the end of 2019.

Sam says they took him to some events, and after a first performance where he came in with placings of sixth, seventh and ninth, he got a second iat his second event.

The highlight so far was his first big race at Tattershall.

“In his first race he got second, then he got a first; and then he went through to the final and won that, which was a very proud day for us.”

Sam says its very much a family affair, with Sam’s elder brother Andy helping Tom with his training.

“And his grandad is his biggest fan.

“There’s no stopping him coming,” said Sam.

Sam says Tom lives and breathes motor racing.

He said: “We think he can do well at this, and so do

others. There’s some talent there.”

Tom has been sponsored by DPH Removals and Darren Andrews of Independent Grab Hire, but Sam says they are looking for more support if anyone is interested.

He said: “We are doing it for the memories.

“It’s a father and son thing and we love it. But Tom would love it to be his career.”
