Peter Jordan OBE, who was born and bred in the town, was extremely well-known for his work on the council and for the NHS, as well as his involvement in organisations including Boston Golf Club and the Rotary Club of Boston, and a number of local schools.

His brother-in-law, David Rossington, said he was very proud of his Boston heritage.

He was elected to Boston Borough Council with the Boston By-Pass party in 2007, and was deputy leader for two-and-a-half years, before being made mayor in 2010-11.

Peter was awarded the OBE in 2001 for his services to Boston and the NHS, having been chairman of the Pilgrim NHS Trust for eight years.

“He was a Boston man through and through, and very proud to serve as mayor,” said David.

He did National Service with the Royal Engineers, and very much saw himself as an ‘army man’, David said.

He worked his way up from apprentice to becoming managing director and a board member of the print company Norcross, which he worked for until his retirement at the age of 59.

As part of that role, he became president of the Sandringham Association of Royal Warrant Holders after Norprint became a royal warrant holder for printing labels for international tours taken by the Royal Family.

After his retirement, he devoted much of his time to his role as chairman of the old Pilgrim NHS Trust.

A former pupil of Boston Grammar School, Peter also returned to the school to become chairman of governors.

His work in the community also saw him involved in Boston Borough Council’s town centre management forum, the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Boston Mayflower Association, Boston Golf Club, where he was captain in 1991-92, and Boston Rotary Club, which he was president of in 1994.

As well as the grammar school, Peter also served as a founding governor of Boston College of Further Education, and governor of Middlecott School in Kirton and Giles School in Old Leake.

“He was very much a man’s man, and a leader,” said David. “He had a very sharp mind and loved to debate a wide range of issues.”

A spokesman for the Rotary Club of Boston said: “Peter was a long-standing member and served the club in various capacities as well as being president 1994/5.

“He was very supportive of the club’s fundraising and charitable activities.

“Even as he became less mobile and physically active in the last few years, his mind remained razor sharp and he played his full part in the club’s activities as a valued honorary member.

“He will be sorely missed by both the club and the wider Rotary community.”

The funeral service for Peter is due to take tomorrow (Saturday) with a limited number of people attending.
