Skegness Town Council had hoped to hold a VE Day event in the Tower Gardens on May 8 last year, but it had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The Council agreed that the event should be moved to Armed Forces Day in 2021, which falls June 26.

However, there have been concerns that whilst the Government Roadmap sets a date of 21 June for current restrictions to be lifted, there would not be time to finalise plans.

Town Clerk Steve Larner explained: "The date will not be confirmed, nor the criteria for the

lifting set out, until approximately two weeks prior to this date.

"Two weeks is insufficient to be able to react to react to any conditions or changes that might be put in place.

"It is also possible that restrictions may not be lifted in accordance with the Government Roadmap and given that the planned event date is only five days after the planned restrictions lifting date, even a slight change in Government plans could force the

cancellation."

The Council are to revise the date until next year, will the preferred date being Armed Forces Day on May 21, 2022 .
