WATCH: Creepy clowns and carnival capers - is this Lincolnshire's best Halloween house display?

While lots of homes feature impressive Halloween displays, there aren't many offering such an immersive and creepy experience as this house in Spilsby.

Visiting this home in Lady Jane Franklin Drive has become a must for only the bravest trick-or-treaters - offering more of an experience than simply a spooky spectacle. Those with Coulrophobia (a fear of clowns) have learnt to steer well clear - as this family have been laying on creative and creepy carnival capers for several years now.

Those who do venture close are met by gnarled clowns pretending to be statues, mini jesters riding trikes, bubble machines, music, chainsaw sound-effects interactive ticket booths and a sinister sweet stall. The level of creativity and commitment behind this family’s effort is clear to see.

"We started around 10 years ago when my daughters had the grandchildren and they could all get involved,” said owner Sarah Hemstock. “The aim was to bring the community together for one night, and seeing their faces is exactly why we do it. The feedback has always been so positive, with people saying they look forward to visiting us each Halloween."

Sarah comes up with the creative ideas, which are then brought to life by her family. Son-in-law Tom Atkinson builds all the hand-made features, from the ticket booth and sweet stand, to the walk-through zone and fencing, while her children and grandchildren perform as 'scare actors' in clown suits.

"It's a family effort," Sarah adds. "They play the parts brilliantly, and a big shout out to Tom, who is doing so much brilliant work behind the scenes.”

Asked whether the ‘carnival’ will be back in town next Halloween, Sarah said, “If people really want it, we may bring it back again.”
