‘We are all getting soaked’

Pedestrians in Horncastle are getting soaked by water from blocked roadside gullies that Lincolnshire County Council has failed to repair.

That’s the claim made by town councillor Terry McCarthy.

She said residents had contacted her to complain about the situation in East Street.

She added pedestrians were ‘getting desperate’ after being splashed with water from passing vehicles driving through the ‘flooded ‘gullies.

Coun McCarthy told this month’s town council meeting that the problem had been reported to the county council - via the online ‘FixmyStreet’ portal.

However, she said although the reports had been made a couple of weeks ago, no action had been taken.

She said: “People are getting desperate. They are getting absolutely soaked because there is so much water in the gullies.

“It is not draining away.”

Town mayor Coun Fiona Martin said it wasn’t just an issue in East Street.

She said similar problems on Mareham Road had been reported several times - without success.

The town’s county councillor Bill Aron said he would ‘chase up’ the issue with highways officers.

He added that anyone who had problems with the reporting system should contact him.
