‘We are responsible for helping others’: Skegness Brownie on a mission to earn every badge - with our help
A nine-year-old Brownie from Skegness is on a mission to complete every single Brownie badge — and Lincolnshire World is helping her by publishing her story.
Rosie’s mum, Lauren Cawley, explained she has set herself the amazing goal of earning all the badges available. She said: “Writing her story for the newspaper is actually part of her final task to complete her last new interest badge, so having it published will help her get one step closer to her Gold Award." Already, Rosie’s journey has seen her busy making friends, learning new skills, and collecting badges. Here’s her story in her own words:
“My name is Rosie, I have just turned 9 years old and I am a Girlguiding Brownie. I wanted to tell you a bit about my journey as a Brownie.
I started 3rd Skegness Brownies in April 2024.

At Brownies we do lots of fun things such as games, crafts, activities, outings, and trips. I enjoy attending Brownies because I have made lots of new friends, we do many exciting activities and I enjoy completing and collecting badges.
I have completed many badges at Brownies. Brownies originally had 18 interest badges to complete. I was successful at completing all of these, which included badges such as charities, languages, baking, local history, painting and inventing.
Then, lucky for me, at the end of July 2025, there were 18 new interest badges released. I am on a mission to also complete all of these.
"My story to the newspaper is part of a task to complete my last one of the new interest badges, which means I will have completed all interest badges available to Brownies.

“When you complete an interest badge and a skills builder badge you earn a theme award.
"There are six theme awards to receive. I have earned five out of six, which means I will soon be able to complete my Gold Award, after already receiving Bronze and Silver.
“I am a Brownie seconder, which means when we are working in groups I am the deputy leader. We are responsible for helping others in our group.
“I also recently went on my first Brownie sleepover to PGL, where we completed lots of fun activities such as abseiling, archery, climbing and raft building, as well as songs around the campfire.”
What is Brownies?
Brownies is a section of UK Girlguiding for girls aged 7-10, focusing on fun, learning, and adventure through activities like camping, crafts, and exploring new skills to build confidence, creativity, and teamwork in a supportive, all-girl environment. Members earn badges, try challenges like growing plants or cooking, and participate in outdoor activities, making friends and discovering the world around them.
Brownies welcomes all girls from 7 to 10 years old. After Brownies, girls can move on to Guides (ages 10-14), and before Brownies, Rainbows welcomes girls aged 4-7.
