'We have been pleasantly surprised': Skegness defies weather fears with bumper Easter crowds

Skegness has enjoyed a bustling and vibrant Easter weekend, with visitors flocking to the resort in strong numbers despite earlier concerns over unsettled weather and rising fuel costs.

Businesses across the town have reported a steady flow of tourists in the lead-up to the Bank Holiday and throughout the weekend itself, with many attractions, eateries and events seeing healthy footfall.

Paul McCooey, Chair of the Skegness Area Business Chamber, said the turnout had exceeded expectations.

He said: “We have been pleasantly surprised that Skegness has been so busy; the weather and fuel prices were not the damper to the holiday spirit that some feared.

“Both the lead up to Easter and the weekend itself Skegness has been bustling with activity.

“Whilst it may be too early to have a meaningful insight into actual spend we can say that the value of the holiday and day trip offer is beyond doubt.

“Our attractions are better than ever and we have a wide variety of food and drink options. In this respect it is clear that visitors to Skegness achieve real value for their hard-earned money and we appreciate and welcome every one of them.”

Across the town, families made the most of a packed programme of Easter-themed activities. At The Village Church Farm, crowds turned out for craft stalls, an Easter egg hunt and a popular appearance from the Easter Bunny, helping to create a lively, family-friendly atmosphere despite changeable conditions.

Manager Naomi Walton said: “It was an absolutely amazing day and fantastic to see so many people - lots of returning/regular visitors and some new ones as well. We had 100+ people in total!

“The weather was dramatic, changing from glorious sun and blue sky to all of a sudden down pour. But still a successful day for the museum and an enjoyable day for guests.”

Meanwhile, holiday parks and seafront attractions also reported strong attendance, with visitors enjoying traditional seaside favourites, arcades and fairground rides. Cafés, pubs and restaurants were kept busy as tourists took advantage of the town’s expanding food and drink scene.

The weekend’s success has been welcomed as a positive sign for the season ahead, with Skegness continuing to build its reputation as a value-for-money destination offering a wide range of attractions for all ages.

With further events and celebrations planned in the coming weeks, including community activities and seasonal attractions, local businesses are hopeful the strong Easter showing will mark the start of a successful spring and summer period for the resort.
