'We wouldn't change it': Skegness couple celebrate golden wedding anniversary - on Valentine’s Day
A Skegness couple are marking a very special Valentine’s Day this year as they celebrate 50 years of marriage.
Tony and Roma Beckett will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on February 14, exactly half a century after tying the knot in 1976.
Lifelong Skegness residents, the couple say the romantic date was more chance than planning — but they wouldn’t change it.
Roma joked: “The date just fell right for when we had bought the house and saved more money up.”

Tony spent more than 35 years working at Bottons Fairground, eventually becoming manager, while Roma built a varied career working at Skegness Hospital, running the Whiteways Hotel, and later helping people into work placements at East Lindsey District Council before joining SureTrust until her retirement.
Together, they raised their daughter Carla, ran several family businesses and have remained deeply rooted in the Skegness community.
Now enjoying a well-earned retirement, Tony is a keen golfer at Seacroft Golf Course, while Roma keeps active with exercise classes at Magna Vitae and a regular walking group with friends and family.
The couple also enjoy travelling, frequently returning to Tenerife, and spending time with their granddaughters Imogen and Paige, alongside friends and family.
Their golden anniversary will be celebrated with a party at The Artisan in Skegness, beginning at 6pm on Valentine’s Day, surrounded by loved ones.
As they mark 50 years together, Tony and Roma say they are looking forward to many more shared adventures — proof that love, laughter and community ties are at the heart of a long and happy marriage.
Roma added laughing: “We haven’t got a secret, Tony just does as I tell him.”
