'Wear it Pink' fundraiser for cancer charities set for Skegness Wetherspoons pub
A splash of pink, a community coming together and two important causes will be at the heart of a charity fundraiser at The Red Lion in Skegness.
Pub manager Abbie Gibb, fundraiser Samantha Clayton - known as Babs - and cancer survivor Sharry are working together with the Wetherspoons team to host a Wear It Pink day tomorrow, (Friday, October 23).
The event will raise funds for Breast Cancer Now and Young Lives vs Cancer, with visitors invited to wear pink and enjoy a day of fundraising activities and creative fun. For Sharry, an active supporter of cancer charities and a cancer survivor herself, the occasion has particular personal meaning. The fundraiser is a shared effort, bringing together her commitment to the causes, Babs’s fundraising involvement and the support of Abbie and the pub team.
The event promises a giant tombola, raffles, lucky dips and a “name the teddy” competition - giving visitors plenty of ways to take part.

Local artist, photographer and children’s author Steve Gould will also be joining the day through Splash of Gold, bringing creative activities and introducing his storybook characters, the Kitty Krew. It will be Monty, Daisy and mischievous Kylo’s first appearance at The Red Lion, offering visitors a chance to discover their adventures and enjoy some of the creativity behind the stories.
Inspired by Steve’s own cats, the Kitty Krew combine storytelling, illustration and gentle humour with the message “Be Kind – Be Curious - Be Creative”.
Steve’s involvement brings his community art work and love of storytelling into a day focused on supporting the two charities.
The team hopes local people will come along, bring a friend and help turn a ‘splash of pink’ into a worthwhile contribution to both causes.
