Having closed its doors more than four weeks ago, in line with government restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Woodlands Cafe had a lot of ice cream that needed to be used.

Cafe spokesman Kate Praski said: “We opened for two hours to give away our home-made ice cream to local care homes, schools, key workers and residents of Woodhall Spa.

“We put out a collection tin and raised £340 for the NHS too, so thank you to everyone for the donations .

“I think a couple of hundred of the Woodhall Spa community came along - old and young, all observing social distancing rules we had put in place.

“We had Pilgrim Hospital, St Hugh’s School, Eastwood Lodge care home and Russell Green care home, as well as all the team from Co-op in Woodhall who came along before 11am to beat the queue, as they are, of course, some of our key workers.

“We had enough for everyone and it worked perfectly because we just ran out 10 minutes before the end of the two hours we had planned to be open for.

“Everyone who came along got ice cream and went home happy.”
