Steve Hayes from the Sleaford Navigation Trust had travelled down by narrowboat and said: “Getting there and back proved interesting with gale force winds and perishing cold on the way there and rain of biblical proportions on the way back.”

South Kyme made the boaters very welcome with a Pub Quiz on the Friday night at The Hume. A 1970s and 80’s dance on the Saturday night at the village hall saw some superb costumes. Also on the Saturday was the traditional duck race, however, excessive river weed prevented any of the racers from finishing and the nearest the finish had to be declared the winner. These two events raised £480 for St Barnabas’ Hospice.

The village also held its annual scarecrow contest - on a Disney theme, judged by the Navigation Trust members. Winner was Lesley Moore with her Captain Hook and crocodile, while second place went to Pauline Hardman with her Cruella De Vil and 101 Dalmatians. Things were rounded off with the boaters’ church service.
