A crisp sunny Sunday morning brought out many tractor enthusiasts for what has become an annual January event in Middle Rasen.

Numbers were up on last year, with 35 tractors of all shapes and sizes taking to the road for the annual January tractor road run.

This is the third year the event has been staged to raise money for Cancer Research UK, starting at the Nags Head in Middle Rasen.

“We would like to thank the Nags Head for hosting the event over the last three years,” said Sheila Reading, who organises the event with John Branston and Maggie Branston.

“They always put on a lovely spread and make us feel very welcome.”

The road runners were waved on their way by a number of onlookers, who had turned up to see the vast range, and age, of machinery taking part in the event.

John Branston set the route, which took the roadrunners through Middle Rasen to Osgodby and across the A46 to Walesby.

Once they had negotiated Walesby Hill, it was on to Tealby, then North Willingham and Little London, before heading back through Market Rasen to the Nags Head for some welcome - and warming - refreshment.

As well as paying £10 to take part in the road run, the generous tractor drivers donated items for the raffle and items for the auction.

“Thanks go to everyone who has supported us again this year,” added Sheila.

“Although the sun was shining, it was pretty cold, but I think everyone enjoyed it - and as far as I know only one of the 35 tractors failed to make it to the finish.

“We are delighted to say the event raised £572.

“This is a great amount and we will be forwarding this on to Cancer Research UK as soon as possible to help them continue their amazing work.”

Plans are already underway for next year’s event, which will take place on Sunday, January 15.
