PICTURE: Staff at E.A Bird and Sons Ltd in mid 60s

Guardian readers were sad to hear last week that a popular family-run business had shut its doors for the last time.

E.A Bird and Son Ltd announced that the company, which was established in 1902, has gone into voluntary liquidation.

The butchers on Bridge Place employed around eight staff and also had branches in Mansfield, Kirkby and Sutton.

Following the news, resident Mrs K. Ansell brought in this picture of employees working in the shop in the mid 60s.
