The Pilgrims and Magpies have met 12 times in the previous four seasons, both teams claiming four wins and the remaining four contests ending in draws.

However, it was Chorley who were left celebrating in the most memorable clash between the two sides, winning through 5-4 on penalties in the 2014-15 play-off semi-final in Lincolnshire.

This recent rivalry began earlier that season following the Magpies’ promotion to the National League North.

Dayle Southwell and Kaine Felix were on target in the first meeting, Boston leaving Victory Park with a 2-1 success.

The two sides then played out a goalless stalemate at the Jakemans Stadium the following week, that scoreline replicated in Lancashire in the play-off first leg.

Scott Garner and Kaine Felix put Boston 2-0 up in the second leg, but a 95th-minute overhead kick from Adam Roscoe took the game into extra time and penalties.

They added a 2-0 home win early in the 2016-17 campaign, but Boston responded with a 3-1 win at home, Lewis Hilliard, Adam Chapman and Jan Yeomans on the scoresheet.

Last season saw the rivals meet another four times.
