In pictures: Raging inferno at Elkesley railway sleeper yard

These photos show the extent of the damage caused to a huge pile of railway sleepers which went up in flames near Elkesley today (Saturday 31st August 2013).

Ten fire engines and their crews were tackling the blaze at its height.

They were called to the yard at Nottinghamshire Sleeper Company in Jockey Lane at 3pm.

Smoke from the smouldering scene could be seen for miles around.

Fire engines from Worksop, Retford, Elkesley, Tuxford, Mansfield, Edwinstowe, Newark and Collingham were among those which attended.

Ten crews were using five water jets to tackle the fire.

The blaze encompassed a large quantity of railway sleepers.

Two lorries and a pile metal containers were also affected, and can be seen in these photos.
