Pilgrim Hospital to share £25m investment

United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (ULHT), which runs the hospital, announced the contract with construction firm Kier to deliver a ‘programme of both major and minor works over the next year’ at Pilgrim, Grantham and District Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital.

The Boston works will include the development of a ‘new multi-purpose clinical accommodation’, which the trust says will enable some maternity and gynaecology services to be moved into improved facilities.

A modular unit will be built to house maternity.

Smaller works will also be carried out across all the hospitals including ward refurbishments, mechanical and electrical infrastructure, improved theatre ventilation, fire safety measures and roof repairs.

It is hoped the work will be completed by March 2016.

ULHT’s director of estates and facilities Paul Boocock called the project an ‘important step’ in transforming services and ‘ensuring they are safe and sustainable for the 21st century’.

“By modernising our buildings, we can better meet high quality clinical standards and also help become a more energy efficient organisation. Investing this money shows our commitment to the future of all three hospitals,” he said.

Kier was given the contract as part of a six-year initiative started in 2010 aimed at getting construction ‘partners’ to deliver new, upgraded or refurbished facilities.

The contract is managed by Capita Health Partners and forms part of the Trust’s five-year estates strategy.

A trust spokesman said the initiative focuses on ‘modernising the hospitals and looking at ways the trust’s estate can be best used to support new models of clinical practice’.

Kier’s senior framework manager Lewis Parker said the firm was ‘delighted’ to be a part of a project ‘which will provide outstanding new healthcare facilities’.
