Plans for extra 50 homes approved for Heckington despite parish concerns

North Kesteven District Council planners have approved outline plans for 50 new homes in Heckington.

The planning sub-committee agreed with officers’ recommendations at a recent meeting when considering plans for the development at Irelands Field, between Boston Road and Cobham Close

This follows permission given in 2014 for a different development of 50 homes at the site - which could bring the total of homes up to 100 if the go-ahead for development is given.

Heckington was described as a sustainable village and part of the emerging Local Plan for development.

The landowner’s agent said the scheme was deliverable and well integrated with minimum loss of hedgerow and keeping an old pond.

Heckington Parish Council vice-chairman David Woods expressed concerns regarding sewerage capacity due to existing issues already being experienced and that the local primary school could be overstretched as class sizes were already large in number.

Some councillors agreed noting that the sewerage system was out of date and that the school would be under pressure.

However, in the officers’ report it stated that Anglian water assessed the system could cope and the school capacity would not exceed legal guidelines

Up to 35 per cent affordable housing will be included in the scheme.
