An outline application has been submitted to Boston Borough Council by the proprietors of Bridge House Independent Behavioural School for the new building plus onsite accommodation, on Great Fen Road, near the Princess Royal Sports Arena.

The school is currently based across two sites at Wyberton Chain Bridge and Carlton Road, and is registered for 80 full-time places for 12-16 year olds - although currently only accommodates 50 pupils.

The new site would be for up to 100 pupils with 10 per cent requiring on site accommodation.

A statement submitted to the council by the school says the site would include modern classrooms, canteen, kitchen, toilets, offices and reception - all within a single-storey building.

The statement says it would also create ‘increased staff employment opportunities’.

It adds the two current sites are ‘running at near full capacity’ and ‘falling short in providing the required functional accomodation and ever-increasing additional requirements’ for those who attend.

It says: “The two existing school sites have now become out-dated, not practicable to alter or extend and do not allow for the expansion and redevelopment that is required in order to encompass the present and future demands.”

It adds: “The proposed new school is the final chapter of a long term vision of the proprietors for an alternative provision school.”

The report to go before planners further notes the new building would ‘add value within the curriculum by providing qualifications linked to the employment opportunities of the locality’.
