Plans revealed for Worksop ambulance protest

PROTESTERS will march through Worksop town centre next Wednesday campaigning against proposed changes to the ambulance service.

Public services union UNISON has organised the protest to campaign against East Midlands Ambulance Service’s plans to close Worksop and Retford ambulance stations.

At 10am on Wednesday 24th October the protesters will gather near WH Smith, and walk up and down Bridge Street.

At least 100 people are expected to join in, with Save Our Services campaigners and members of the public making up the numbers.

“We had initially hoped to march on a route around the town centre using road closures,” said march organiser Emma Bardney.

“Notts Police has also agreed to police the march. But while we want to get our message out there and cause a bit of disruption, we don’t want to risk public safety.”

“With it being a busy market day we might be best holding a static protest or walking up and down the main pedestrianised area.”

More details will be released nearer the time.

A march is also taking place in Retford tomorrow (Thursday) from 10am starting at the King and Miller pub on North Road.
