Police caught thieves in act

A HARWORTH man who admitted being in a derelict Gainsborough building for the purpose of stealing lead has been given a community penalty.

Michael Garner, 19, of Sandymount West, Harworth, Notts, was at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.

The court heard how Garner was living in Gainsborough around the time of the offence, on 27th January this year.

Police officers were told that two men were inside the former Gainsborough Enterprise Centre building on Lea Road.

They found Garner and another man in the playground along with various bundles of lead.

Garner was handed a 12 month community order, 80 hours unpaid work, and ordered to pay £100 costs.

District Judge John Stobart warned Garner if he did not comply with probation, he may face a prison sentence.
