Police ‘stop and search’ training up for tender

Stop and search diversity training within Nottinghamshire Police is up for tender following research commissioned by crime commissioner, Paddy Tipping.

The in-house training is being sought as a result of 30 recommendations for change arising from the research, which was about exploring and improving policing experiences among black and minority ethnic communities.

Commissioner Tipping said: “This training will have a valuable role in improving BME (black and minority ethnic) experience of policing through better engagement.

“The report’s recommendations included the need to improve BME victim satisfaction with stop searches, and an increase in BME representation within the force - all of which are much needed in our society.”

The training for officers will include an understanding of diversity that is related to the use of body-worn video, especially in respect of stop and search and interaction with BME communities.

Body worn video follows a £5m award to police forces across the East Midlands by the Home Office for investment in new technology and pioneering crime investigation techniques.
