Police warning to Lincolnshire businesses on email malware

On Thursday spam emails associated with ‘Dridex’ malware were used to deliver Microsoft Office Word documents containing a malicious macro code. These emails have the following attributes:

SUBJECT: Please print

ATTACHMENT: Order-SO00653333-1.doc

A spokesman for Lincilnshire police said: “Only ever open attachments from trusted sources and be wary of macros trying to run when opening documents.

“System administrators should consider disabling macros as a default so users are prompted to enable them first when opening a document.

“Ensure anti-virus is installed and the latest updates have been downloaded. Dridex continues to evolve so it is essential updates are current.

“If you receive an email from this source with the same subject and attachment quarantine or delete it.

“If your business does become a victim of this malware, report it online to Action Fraud, the National Fraud and Cyber Crime Reporting Centre, or by calling 0300 123 2040.”
