The Lincolnshire and Rutland branch of Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) is urging women from the Sleaford area to join their protest in London on Wednesday, June 29.

Spokeswoman Trish McGregor, of Ancaster, said: “The event coincides with the 1909 anniversary of Emmeline Pankhurst marching to Parliament with hundreds of Suffragettes, to present a petition to Prime Minister Asquith.”

The event aims to raise awareness of ‘the hardship and unfairness’ suffered by women born on or after April 6, 1951, as a result of the Government’s alterations to the State Pension Age.

Trish added: “I got involved as I was incensed at the Government’s selfish and unjust actions. I have worked all my life and had planned my retirement at the age of 60, as that was the retirement age of women. The Government did not inform me they had put my pension age up. I did not find out until I requested a pension forecast. My retirement age was raised to 62, then to 65-and-a-half. Even now there are many ladies who are unaware their pension age has been increased.”
